Description
Packington’s Pound
Transcribed, extended and annotated for Classical Guitar by Vincent F. Coley

Composed in honour of Sir John Packington (1549-1625). One of
Queen Elizabeth's favourites. He placed a wager that he could swim
the width (or length) of the Thames under water. This wager was
prevented by Queen Elizabeth, apparently worried for Packington’s
safety.
It first appeared in William Barley's New Book of Tablature in 1596.
This is just one of many versions of this dance and in character with the
spirit of the Renaissance there will be many more to follow.
